Norwegian’s new Breakaway Plus ships’ names announced

With thanks to the cruise line’s Facebook fans, the two brand new Breakaway Plus ships have been given names!

Norwegian Escape and Norwegian Bliss were the two winning names!  These names won the highest number of votes from the cruise line’s social community.

Fans from five different countries were given ten names to choose from in the “Norwegians Name Their Ships” contest. The contest ran for 14 days in September and generated more than 100,000 votes in total. Fans located in the United States, Canada, Spain, Germany and The United Kingdom were surveyed for their opinions.

Speaking about the response to the name competition, Kevin Sheehan, Norwegian’s chief executive officer gave the following statement:

“The response to our ‘Norwegians Name Their Ships’ contest was overwhelming. It reaffirms that we have a very engaged and passionate community of Norwegians and we are thrilled with the names they have selected for our two new Breakaway Plus class ships. Norwegian Escape and Norwegian Bliss are two names that truly characterise our brand, Freestyle Cruising®, and the experience guests will have on board these fantastic new vessels.”

All fans were entered into a random prize draw after casting their votes, and the prize is a trip for two on the first Breakaway Plus inaugural sailing. This will include a round-trip economy airfare, ground transportation, balcony stateroom accommodation and on-board meals. Wow, what a prize!

About Breakaway Plus:

The two new breakaway plus ships will be the largest in Norwegian’s fleet. They will weigh 163,000 gross tonnes and carry 4,200 passengers at double occupancy.

The ships will be similar in design and innovation to the brand new Norwegian Breakaway ships – although slightly larger in size. The first Breakaway ship, named Norwegian Breakaway, launched in New York in early May 2013. The second ship, named Norwegian Getaway, will launch this coming January and will be home-ported in Miami.

About Norwegian cruise Line:

Norwegian Cruise Line have a strong 46-year history in the cruise market and pioneered the idea of “Freestyle Cruising”, giving the guests more flexibility and freedom when booking and attending their cruise holiday. With Norwegian’s “Freestyle Cruising” ethos, guests can enjoy a relaxed, resort-style vacation on some of the most contemporary and luxury ships at sea.

Norwegian has won a number of accolades.  Just recently, the line was recently named “Europe’s Leading Cruise Line” for the sixth consecutive year at the World Travel Awards, while Norwegian’s current largest cruise ship, Norwegian Epic, was named the “Best For Entertainment” in the 2012 Cruise Critic UK Editors’ Pick Awards.
