Guests will be able to enjoy a chilled out experience at the all new ‘SVEDKA/Inniskillin Ice Bar’, while sipping on Florida-inspired cocktails in an ice-room themed around the ship’s homeport city, Miami. Customers will marvel at the bar’s icy walls etched with Miami Beach’s famous Ocean Drive skyline; there’s also a “Welcome to Miami Beach” sign and a life-size alligator throne ALSO made entirely from ice – it’s quite a spectacle.
The Ice Bar will be kept cold at 17 degrees Fahrenheit, as the entire surroundings are made from ice, so too are the bar, glassware and customer seating! No wonder Norwegian Cruise Line say the frozen chamber is guaranteed to give passengers the “ultimate chill.” Brrr!
Because of the Arctic-like temperatures, guests will need to don hooded coats and gloves to keep warm during their visit to the bar.
The Ice Bar only accommodates 25 guests at a time, but reservations can be made by passengers for the evenings (between 5.30 and 10.30pm each night). There is a door fee of $20 per person, and this includes two signature cocktails in specially created glasses (yes you guessed it, made entirely from ice!)
The Ice Bar’s menu is suitably Florida-themed. Guests can enjoy one of five speciality cocktails made from SVEDKA vodka and Inniskillin ice wine. The choices are:
Teetotallers will be pleased to hear there are two non-alcoholic drinks on the menu too:
In addition, SVEDKA vodka and Inniskillin ice wine will also be available in all bars and restaurants throughout Norwegian Getaway.
Being developed as “Miami’s Ship”, Getaway will embody the essence of her topical hometown throughout – right from the new Ice Bar’s theme through to the hull muriel painted by local artist David “LEBO” LeBatard.
Getaway will launch in January 2014. Two further ‘Breakaway Plus’ ships are due to launch in 2015 and 2017 respectively.
The Ice Bar concept is not exclusive to Getaway: sister ship Breakaway has a similar feature onboard too (image shown above right).
