Any avid Royal Caribbean fan will know that the line has launched a countdown blog to celebrate the unveiling of its newest fleet member, Quantum of the Seas. The blog is suitably titled ‘99 days of Quantum’ and every day, the line posts exclusive new content regarding the ongoing construction and fit-out of what has been pegged as the ‘world’s first smartship.’ Recently, Royal Caribbean gave us a sneak peek at one of the most exciting additions to the 4180 passenger megaliner – The North Star.
The ultra-modern feature has drummed up a huge amount of buzz and is essentially a jewel shaped glass observation pod attached to a giant arm which launches the pod 300 feet into the sky. As the incredible observation pod was fitted at Germany’s Meyer Werft shipyard, Ingrid Fiebak was on hand to capture all the action as it unfolded. Check out some of the pics below!
The engineering feat is a world first and will give 14 passengers the opportunity to soak up spectacular views of the cruise ship and beyond. Whether it’s gazing over the open ocean or marvelling at the sights as Quantum pulls into port, North Star is an at-sea experience not to be missed. According to Royal Caribbean representatives the concept was inspired by the iconic London Eye. And the best thing? It’s completely complimentary! This means that every passenger can have the chance to enjoy breath-taking bird’s eye views, no matter what their budget! The Royal Caribbean website states, “Take yourself to new heights with the jewel-shaped capsule that gently ascends over 300 feet above sea level. Breath-taking 360° views of the sea and our destinations make the North Star one of the most anticipated features on this ship.”
For years, Royal Caribbean has been pushing the boundaries of contemporary cruising. From surf machines and skydiving simulators to gourmet dining and Broadway style shows, the line seems to have adopted the mentality that nothing is impossible! North Star is the latest venture which proves the commitment to innovation and serves as solid proof that on cruise ships anything goes! Want to know more about the North Star and what passengers can expect to see and feel while riding the next generation viewing pod? Check out Royal Caribbean’s official North Star video below:
