New fleet in Royal Caribbean’s future

Royal Caribbean has signed a letter of intent to build the first cruise ship of a new generation with Meyer Werft shipyard. Code named ‘Project Sunshine’ this new and exciting design is a result of over a year of research and development, and will incorporate the best of the Royal Caribbean experience.

The project is estimated to cost around €170,000 per berth, which includes but is not limited to shipyard contract costs, design, architect fees and building. As the ship will carry just over 4,100 guests in double occupancy, the total cost of this 158,000 GRT (Gross Registered Tons) vehicle will be, putting it blandly, rather a lot. We would expect nothing less from Royal Caribbean, whose reputation for innovation, passion and imagination is hard won and definitely deserved. Although the newest ideas and features are still under wraps, it is undoubted that Project Sunshine will reveal exciting new activities and entertainment concepts never seen before.

A Royal Caribbean spokesperson has confirmed that energy efficiency and environmentally friendly technologies have been incorporated into this new design, building on Royal Caribbean’s already energy efficient fleets. The partnership between Meyer Werft and Royal Caribbean is largely responsible, as the shipyards reputation for innovation is suitably equal to the cruise line’s, and Meyer Werft are said to be pleased at the opportunity to work on another cutting edge project.

The new cruise liner promises to have features for everyone, from wide open spaces to intimate settings, and activities for the energetic cruise passenger to plenty of opportunities for peace and quiet in personal spaces. We look forward to hearing more nearer the time of delivery in the autumn of 2014.
