New Cunard At-Sea Cellar Set to School Passengers in Art of Fine Wine

Cunard is the epitome of at-sea refinement, and now the luxury British line is promising to school passengers in the art of fine wine appreciation. Aboard the new-look Queen Mary 2, guests will be invited to attend sessions at the Cunard Wine Academy, a venue that the line is hailing as the world’s finest at-sea wine cellar.

Described as an “All sensory experience of food and wine pairings, tastings and producer master classes for the appreciation of even the most advanced wine graduate,” the on-board academy has definitely got us excited!

“With the addition of the Cunard Wine Academy, we proudly offer guests yet another exclusive and enriching experience in an unforgettable journey,” says Richard Meadows, president of Cunard North America.

Fancy a glass of $4,500 red?

Housing more than 450 different varieties, the impressively stocked wine cellar will rival the inventories of five star on-shore restaurants. From budget friendly ‘house’ wines, to $4,500 bottles of California Screaming Eagle Cabernet Sauvignon sold by the glass, there’s something for every palate.

“Our sommeliers, together with our suppliers, have searched the world for exciting new additions to Cunard’s famous wine list,” said Anthony Habert, Cunard’s Head of Fine Wines. “We’re proud that we can offer a wine to compliment every palate and occasion.”

To ensure tastings are of the highest quality, Cunard sommeliers will be using the Coravin pouring system, a unique method that uses a needle to extract the desired amount of wine from the bottle.

A ship wide celebration of wine

As a sentimental touch, the ship’s Carinthia Lounge will showcase a selection of 46 vintage port wines bottled on dates that correspond with the line’s major milestones.

“With thoughtful planning and a keen attention to detail, our new fine wines, as well as our unique port collection inspired by Cunard’s history, are evocative of our craftsmanship,” says Meadows.

For Cunard passengers, the addition of the Cunard Wine Academy is a fantastic opportunity to enhance meals at the myriad of new eateries on-board the ship. Menus have been remodelled and spaces revamped, and the chance to pair fine wines with beautifully crafted fare is yet another way Cunard continues to deliver its trademark luxury at-sea experience.
