The upcoming Norwegian Cruise Line, the Norwegian Escape, is taking Miami’s oldest bar to the seas. After 102 years of serving drinks to the Miami public, Tobacco Road is closing its land-based location and moving all operations on board the upcoming ship from Norwegian Cruise Line.
With more than 100 years of service behind it, the new Tobacco Road will feature many elements of the original bar including memorabilia, photographs depicting the history of Miami, and the original neon sign.
The bar will be relocated to 678 Ocean Place aboard the ship and will feature a great selection of cocktails created by the expert, resident mixologist, Leo Holtzman. Tobacco Road favourites include the Chili Mule (ginger puree, Cointreau, vodka and a sliced seranno pepper) and the Gateway (rum, yuzu juice, elderflower syrup and Prosecco) will be served alongside a wide selection of beers and wines.
The current Tobacco Road also serves as a diner and live music venue as well as a bar.
The iconic bar received its liquor license in November 1912, exactly 103 years before it is due to open on the Norwegian Escape. The bar has enjoyed an action-packed history, being shut down numerous times by the law during the prohibition period when it served as a speakeasy.
Tobacco Road will be just one of the numerous bars aboard the Norwegian Escape with Mixx Bar, Prime Meridian, O’Sheehan’s Neighbourhood Bar and Skyline Bar already confirmed. The latter is the accompanying bar of the casino – the largest casino aboard any Norwegian Cruise Line vessel.
