With only three and a half weeks until Royal Caribbean’s newest liner Quantum of the Seas entertains passengers for the first time, the final checks of the ship are being carried out. As crew members are readied for the maiden voyage from Southampton to New York on November 2; the Royal Caribbean team are busy making sure everything is perfect for the liner’s first passengers.
The most high-tech cruise ship on the seas has arrived at the German port of Bremerhaven for these final checks before making the short trip over to Southampton. All the cabins for the 4,000+ guests must be fully prepared for departure and many of the world’s first features such as the NorthStar Observation Pod must be readied and operating at peak performance.
The ship’s chefs and kitchen teams throughout the Quantum must be prepared in their arts as thousands of hungry guests will soon be filling reservations. The first ever Jamie’s Italian on the seas is in its final stages of preparation as pasta is pressed and pizza dough tossed.
Despite not setting sail until next month, the ship has already attracted significant attention from the general public with photographer Eric Serakas commandeering an aerial drone with attached GoPro camera to capture new images. The photographer and cruise enthusiast Serakas is understandably excited about new vessel:
“When I first saw the ship I thought to myself, ‘Oh my, Royal Caribbean has done it again’. When I took the photo the North Star was being added to the ship by crane. It is one of the last major pieces to be added to the ship before it is ready to go to sea trials.
“It’s Royal Caribbean’s newest ship in their fleet and the North Star is the signature attraction of this newest ship and first ever Smartship.”
Like its sister ship currently being built, Anthem of the Seas, the Quantum was built at the Meyer Werft shipyard in Papenburg, Germany.
