Jane McDonald Returns to the Seas and Our Screens

Star of 90s docusoap, The Cruise, Jane McDonald is set to return to her nautical roots this week with her new show, Cruising with Jane McDonald on Channel 5. The Yorkshire-born singer was catapulted to fame when The Cruise first aired on BBC in 1998, with the show’s 14 million-strong audience falling in love with her never-give-up attitude and broad northern accent.

Cruising with Jane McDonald, starting this Friday (10 Feb), will follow the former Loose Women star as she enjoys a series of different types of cruise holiday. Viewers will be given a behind-the-scenes look at the world of cruising during the four-part series. The first part of the series will feature McDonald holidaying aboard the MSC Divina as she enjoys a seven-night Caribbean adventure. From there, the series will feature her trips to the Inner Hebrides with Majestic Line, a river cruise on the Danube with Uniworld, and an Alaskan cruise aboard the brand new Holland America Line Nieuw Amsterdam.

Managing Director of MSC Cruises UK & Ireland, Antonio Paradiso, said: “We hope that viewers are inspired by the show to consider taking a cruise and it is a great introduction for those who are new to cruising, showing them what they could experience — exploring the world and creating unforgettable memories.”

McDonald’s career really took off after being featured on The Cruise, the loveable singer signed a recording contract with a major label in the wake of the show airing, and her wedding to cruise ship plumber, Henrik Brixen, was even televised on the BBC.

Within two years, she had released her autobiography, and her debut album reached #1 on the UK Albums Chart. Four years later, she joined the Loose Women team, where she was a constant presence on our televisions for a decade.

Since leaving loose women in 2014, McDonald has stayed busy, touring with her Making Memories tour throughout 2016 and 2017, as well as landing the role of Grizabella in the Blackpool 2015 Summer Revival version of the West End musical, Cats.
