ITV Set to Screen Season Two of “The Cruise”

Cruise lovers delight! After a wildly successful pilot series, ITV has confirmed that “The Cruise” will hit screens again in 2017. Set to go live early next year, the follow-up series of the popular television documentary will offer viewers even more insight into what goes on behind the scenes on one of the world’s most luxurious liners.

Producers have confirmed season two will be a six-part instalment, set on-board the Royal Princess. It’ll follow the lives of both passengers and crew sailing with Princess Cruises, as the purpose built ship sails through its Mediterranean summer season. Royal Princess has only been sailing since 2013, which makes her relatively new to Mediterranean waters. She’s even got the royal seal of approval, christened by HRH, the Duchess of Cambridge herself!

Millions tune in for at-sea action

With the first series winning over an average of 3.5 million viewers per episode, it’s no surprise that ITV has signed on for a second round. British based factual documentary maker Wild Productions will continue to produce the show, with unrestricted access to the 3,560-passenger ship.

Tony Roberts, vice president of Princess Cruises UK and Europe was quick to comment on the announcement, saying that the show is a feat for both his line, and the cruise industry in general.

“The first series of The Cruise was a great success for Princess and the cruise industry as a whole, so we are thrilled ITV has asked to come on-board again… We’re eagerly anticipating following Royal Princess as she sails around the Mediterranean and watching the on-board stories unfold to an audience of millions.”

New faces, and old favourites…

So what can viewers expect to see unfolding on-board the decks of the Royal Princess? While no names have yet been revealed, producers have confirmed that they’ll be diving deep into the journeys of crew members. Timothy Gallant was one of last season’s most popular personalities, with a dream of advancing from his guest services role to the coveted shore excursions desk. Former Royal Navy Marine engineer Scott Grayson was another big-time heartthrob, with a comment on this Twitter account suggesting that he could make an appearance in season two!
