With the Oasis Class, Quantum Class and now the Quantum-Ultra Class, Royal Caribbean’s fleet is packed full of amazing new liners taking to the seas with incredible regularity. However, the line still values their more established ships – demonstrated by the brand new update of the much-loved Independence of the Seas.
One of the most popular cruise ships sailing from UK shores, Indy (as she’s affectionately known) has been given a multi-million-pound facelift to restore some of her old charms, and bless her with cutting-edge features.
Brand new features for Independence of the Seas include a trampoline park, a new waterpark, escape rooms and the amazing Japanese dining venue, Izumi. Here, we take a more in-depth look at her updates and upgrades.
The multi-million-pound makeover of the ship will aptly be unveiled in her 10th year of sailing, and the renovations are sure to bring passengers in their droves, with more being announced every couple of months.
Splashaway Bay is sure to keep little cruisers busy. The interactive aqua park will have several swirling slides of varying sizes, perfect for thrill seekers as well as those taking their first foray into water parks. Kids can also have fun splashing in the fountains and showers that will be dotted around the aqua park.
Another brand new activity that children will be begging you to book a cruise for, just to play on, is the top-deck trampoline park. A world first for cruise providers, the trampoline park offers fantastic views whilst also helping kids burn off all that excess energy. This is guaranteed to be popular, and you might even fancy a bounce too!
If you’re looking for something fun to do as a family, look no further than the Independence of the Seas’ newly-installed Escape Room. See how quickly you can break out of the makeshift vault by working together to solve a series of puzzles using clues, hints and strategy a la the Crystal Maze. Warning though, this game is very addictive and you’ll be making multiple trips to beat your record time!
Whilst in the competitive zone, you might also fancy having a game of Laser Tag. That’s right, the ship will have its own neon-lit laser games room. Dive into the darkness and zap your opponents with laser firing guns, whilst trying to remain incognito yourself. Remember, every man for themselves.
A new gastronomic treat is also planned to be added to the ship’s already ample offering in the form of a Japanese restaurant. Izumi will serve authentic Asian cuisine, cooked on Teppanyaki at the tableside. Tickle your taste buds and try everything from octopus sashimi to shrimp wonton soup. Tight for time? No worries, as Izumi Express means you can grab your favourite dishes to go. You might want to try mastering chopsticks before you visit, for true authenticity.
Following Independence of the Seas’ upgrade in early 2018, she’ll be completing an amazing array of cruises from Southampton, including voyages around the Mediterranean and visiting the charming port cities of Western Europe.
Are you excited about holidaying on board the newly revamped ship? The additions are sure to make the ship a popular choice for Summer 2018 so why not give our friendly sales team a call on 0808 2746 777 to discuss what adventures she could take you on, or alternatively visit our homepage for more information.
