Holland America Line’s world-class food is set to get even better this year with the addition of the critically-acclaimed Seattle-based chef Ethan Stowell to its award-winning Culinary Council. For those unfamiliar with the concept, the Culinary Council showcases the skills and experience of globally-renowned celebrity chefs, treating guests to an array of epicurean experiences like never before across its fleet of 14 ships.
With the addition of Ethan, the line’s culinary credentials are undoubtedly raised even further as he joins a team of elite chefs that also includes Council Chairman Rudi Sodamin along with international chefs Jonnie Boer, David Burke, Elizabeth Falkner and Jacques Torres. Well respected and highly decorated, the members of the Culinary Council are a veritable who’s who of the food world, peppering the menus of Holland America Line’s ships with signature dishes and expert insight in order to provide guests with an unbelievable selection of flavours and dishes.
As a chef, Ethan favours keeping things simple, using the freshest ingredients to let his food do the talking, and his array of acclaimed restaurants, including Tavolata, How to Cook a Wolf and the Ballard Pizza Company, certainly speak volumes. With Ethan onboard, Holland America’s sheer number of gourmet experts puts their culinary credentials in the upper echelons of cruise food.
“Our Culinary Council was designed to bring the global leadership of a team of international culinary experts to our onboard dining experience, and we’re thrilled to welcome a creative and successful chef like Ethan to the group,” said Orlando Ashford, Holland America Line’s president. “In partnership with the Culinary Council we continually evolve and enhance our menus, and we’re excited to tap into Ethan’s passion and knowledge of regional cuisine to enrich our offerings across all our ships.”
As part of the relationship with Holland America Line, Stowell will pair his culinary prowess with the cruise line’s top-notch team to introduce guests to the unique flavours of Alaska and the Pacific Northwest on seven of its ships. Close to Ethan’s heart, he endeavours to bring attention to the cuisine of his Seattle hometown. To this end, several of Holland America’s dining venues will feature items curated and crafted by the chef including an unbelievable New York pizza, while the Lido Market will see the chef enhancing the Distant Lands Italian station with the addition of seven signature tossed salads at the Wild Harvest station.
In addition, Ethan will lend his hand to a signature appetiser and main course, that will be featured on the Culinary Council menu in the dining room one evening on each cruise.
