Five Excursions You Can’t Afford to Miss

One of the great benefits of a cruise holiday is the ability to enjoy a number of exciting, interesting and mind-expanding excursions all around the world. Here are five of the most unforgettable, not-to-be-missed cruise excursions available.

Classical Rome

The unique and incredibly individualistic city of Rome continues to captivate the minds of visitors with its incredible architecture, culture and religious significance. Some of the world’s greatest artists and architects such as Bramante, Michelangelo and Raphael helped to shape the beautiful city. Rome is the 18th most visited city in the world and retains its status as a Global City – an integral city in the global economic system.

Vatican City is one of the most religiously significant sites in the world as the global home of Catholicism and the seat of the Pope.

Cruise: Mediterranean Adventure

The Taj Mahal

Built as a mausoleum tribute to his third wife, Mumtaz Mahal, by Mughal emperor Shah Jahan in the 17th century; the Taj Mahal has become a symbol of peace and tranquillity. The Taj Mahal attracts up to 2 million tourists a year according to UNESCO, most of who want to recreate the famous Princess Diana pose, sitting on a bench in front of the mausoleum and the reflective pool.

Cruise: Asia & India

Pyramids and the Sphinx

The Egyptian Pyramids are the sole surviving wonder of the ancient world and still attract visitors in their droves every year. The oldest of the surviving pyramids is over 4,500 years old and 138 of these amazing structures are still standing today. Engineers, scientists and the world’s greatest minds have long pondered how the Egyptians built the great Pyramids.

Tours also take in the Sphinx, an equally awe-inspiring structure whose broken nose and bizarre cat-like creature has baffled and mesmerised generations.

Cruise: Italy, Greece, Egypt & Israel

Bone Island Ghost Tour

Despite sounding like the name of a Scooby Doo episode, the Bone Island Ghost Tour is not for the faint of heart. The Island of Key West, in the Florida straits, is now best known as a holiday paradise, and sometime home to Ernest Hemingway and holidaying US Presidents – but was once called Bone Island.

Legend has it that the island is inhabited by the ghosts of pirates washed up on the shore following devastating shipwrecks. A guided tour through the island recounts innumerate legends, stories and anecdotes. A pub crawl version of the tour is available for those who prefer other kinds of spirits.
