At a traditional ceremony at the Fincantieri Shipyard in Monfalcone, Italy the first piece of steel for the new ship was cut.
Carnival Vista will join 24 other vessels in the company’s fleet when she is delivered in 2016.
As expected, Carnival Vista will also be styled as a “Fun Ship 2.0” meaning she will feature many of the restaurants, bars and entertainment options that currently exist on other Fun Ships, such as Carnival Breeze.
However, Carnival Cruise Line’s CEO Gerry Cahill is quick to note that while there will be similarities between the new and existing ships, there will be some differences too. Speaking at the announcement of Vista onboard the newly revamped Carnival Sunshine back in July 2013, Cahill was quoted as saying:
“[Vista] will look different than Breeze, and it’ll have spaces that are different than Breeze. But it will have a lot of the same spaces [as Breeze].”
According to CMO Jim Berra, Vista will be “extremely connected to the ocean”, offering stunning views from multiple spaces on the ship.
He added:
“We’re starting to use the ship names as a touchstone for how we think about the design.”
“A lot of what we are thinking about for the design and the inspiration [for Carnival Vista]is the views out to the ocean,”
“At the end of the day, that is why people are cruising. They want the salt air. They want the ocean breeze. They want to look out and see the ocean.”
According to the company, further details on design innovations will be announced in the future. Information about Vista’s homeport and itineraries will also be announced through the course of 2014.
Over the last few years, Carnival have refurbished many of their ships as part of an extensive, multi-million dollar renovation, which they nicknamed “Fun 2.0”. New ships were also designed and built with the Fun 2.0 specifications too.
Fun 2.0 renovations include a range of new dining options (including a burger joint and Mexican cantina), a range of new bars and watering holes (including the RedFrog rum bar, a sports bar and a ‘cocktail pharmacy’ full of delicious concoctions and potions), a comedy club, a sweet and gift shop, and an all-new Hasbro themed game show! Fun!
