Famous Cruise Fans

With beautiful settings, stunning culinary options and the chance to explore the most remote areas of the world, it’s hardly surprising that many celebs and famous faces are huge fans of cruise holidays. Here we go celeb-spotting and reveal some of the stars of music and the big screen who share our love of holidaying on the seas.

Gary Barlow

Singer and former X Factor judge, Gary Barlow, is so well-known for his love of cruise holidays that fans have started booking onto his favourite ships and itineraries just to stand a chance of meeting the bloke. The Take That star made the headlines a couple of years ago as the topic of perhaps the most bizarre holiday complaint of all time – a guest was so upset that Barlow wasn’t aboard the cruise she booked on, that she took the issue up with customer services.

David Bowie

The effervescent Bowie has been known to frequent the Queen Mary 2 on transatlantic cruises, choosing to take a little time to travel in luxury rather than simply fly between the UK and US. Cunard’s flagship vessel is hugely popular with a range of other rock stars looking for a relaxing start to upcoming tours, with the likes of Mick Jagger also gracing the vessel.

Cary Grant

Preceding Bowie and Jagger by a few decades, the Oscar-winning actor Cary Grant was a frequent cruiser aboard the QM2’s predecessor, the Queen Mary. The ship played a huge part in his career and personal life – with Grant meeting his wife, Betsy Drake, and the filming of blockbuster An Affair to Remember taking place aboard the vessel.

Grant famously lambasted the actors portraying the crew aboard the Queen Mary, for wearing the wrong buttons on their uniforms – showing his dedication to Cunard traditions.

Oprah Winfrey

One of the USA’s most influential people, Oprah Winfrey has the cash behind her to take over a whole ship – which she did in 2009! The chat show host chartered Norwegian Cruise Line’s Norwegian Gem to hold a huge 10 day party for her employees and their families. The luxury cruise was a great thank you for the hard work of her TV show’s crew and other employees of her huge empire.

Kimberley Walsh

The former Girls Aloud singer and good old fashioned Bradford lass, Kimberley Walsh treated herself and her mum, partner, sister and brother to a cruise aboard the Crown Princess, sailing around the Caribbean.

Princess Cruises have revealed they like to give their celeb guests the VIP treatment, thanks to the publicity the brand receives. Alesha Dixon, Jill Halfpenny and Claire Sweeney are just a few of the other famous faces to have enjoyed the Princess Cruises VIP treatment.
