Is Ed Sheeran Secretly Writing His New Album On a Cruise Ship?

A-list celebrities are no strangers to cruising. But while most board luxury vessels to take a well-deserved break, ‘Thinking Out Loud’ singer Ed Sheeran has supposedly been using his time on the high seas to work on new material for his next album.

According to sources, the loveable British musician hired a “cheap cabin” on-board Cunard’s Queen Mary 2. Rather than taking advantage of the ship’s incredible amenities, Sheeran locked himself away with a pen, a notebook and a whole lot of inspiration. The goal was to create new sounds for his highly-anticipated third studio album, which is set to launch later this year. Sheeran’s been in hiatus since winding up his ‘x Tour’ back in December 2015, so his low-profile appearance on the Queen Mary 2 is exciting news for fans awaiting his new record.

“Ed turned up at the dock in New York and asked for a cheap cabin, nothing fussy,” says a source who talked exclusively to The Sun newspaper. “While aboard he requested a meeting room so they found him a basic, windowless crew room in the bowels of the ship. He spent the entire week locked away, writing.”

Seeking inspiration on the high seas

Despite the 25-year-old being worth more than $63,000,000, he stayed loyal to his trademark laid-back look. Though this did mean he wasn’t able to gain access to any of the ship’s formal areas.

“Ed’s casual dress meant he couldn’t get into any of the fancy dinner areas, not that he cared,” revealed the source. “He was pretty much confined to two informal areas but was very laid back, happy and chatting to everyone.”

Welcome back Ed!

During his time off, Sheeran took a deliberate step back from social media, posting a statement on his Instagram page reading, “I’m taking a break from my phone, emails and all social media for a while I’ve had such an amazing ride over the last five years but I find myself seeing the world through a screen and not my eyes so I’m taking this opportunity of me not having to be anywhere or do anything to travel the world and see everything I missed.”

His return to the limelight was announced with a short but sweet Instagram post, confirming that his third instalment is officially in the making.

“To my fans, the 3rd album is on its way and is the best thing I have made thus far. See you all next autumn, and thanks for being amazing.”
