A staggering 90 cruise liners will call at Dublin Port next year, the most visits the city has ever had from cruise ships in one year. Not only is this fantastic for passengers who will have the chance to explore this marvellous city, but it is great for Dublin itself as the tourism brings a massive economic boost to the whole area.
The cruise season which has just ended, brought around 45 million euros to the city, a very welcome bonus considering the economic problems that the country has been having. Who needs a leprechaun with his pot of gold when you have thousands of tourists wanting to see the sights of Dublin and splash their cash in the fantastic shops which the city has to offer?
One of the most well reported visits that Dublin received last year was from “The World”, the most luxurious residential cruise ship in existance. Cunard‘s Queen Victoria also visited, with the city going down very well with the majority of guests.
It is estimated that around 130,000 people will visit the city as part of their cruise itinerary next year, which is a massive amount of tourism from one source of travel. Over 600,000 visitors have came to the city via a cruise liner in the past four years and this has given Dublin a big boost which for many cities, just isn’t possible.
Next year will also see the Azamara Journey coming to Dublin, where it will be completing the first ever turnaround for the city (where the cruise begins and ends in Dublin). This luxurious vessel coming to Dublin is a massive vote of confidence and a sign that things will continue to improve, and the city will become more and more popular with cruise passengers.
Retailers, restaurants and bars have all benefitted from the additional tourism that cruises bring to the area, especially those in the port area. No doubt all of these industries will be hoping for further growth and more cruises passing through.
