Darcy Bushell became the official Godmother of P&O cruises’ newest ship Azura last Saturday during a star studded extravaganza at Southampton’s Ocean Terminal.
During her guest appearance on the BBC’s One Show, Darcy said she was excited and extremely honoured to be Godmother to the Azura, adding that she’d be putting in lots of practice to ensure the champagne bottle smashed successfully onto the ship’s hull.
All went according to plan as the ballet star joined Captain Keith Dowds to perform the customary champagne bottle smashing against Azura’s hull. Over 1,000 invite guests, including Jonny Vegas and stars from Strictly Come Dancing watched the ceremony on a gigantic pool-side screen whilst a stunning firework display illuminated the port.
P&O Cruises say that the Azura has been designed specifically to accommodate the most discerning of passengers, with a sophisticated and serene ambience on board. Offering spacious passenger accommodation along with the first of P&O ships to offer single occupancy staterooms and luxury suites.
Guests on board the Azura will be spoilt for choice at the exclusive outdoor spa terrace and Wellness facilities which include three swimming pools, a sports court and the Oasis Spa 3. For guests who prefer the less strenuous options can enjoy The Playhouse theatre or spend their leisure time in The Library.
The Azura will be based at Southampton from April through to October and offers cruise deals of between two and sixteen night durations to the Mediterranean, Baltic and Canary Islands. From October 2010 until April 2011 fifteen night fly-cruise holidays will be offered from Barbados.
