I have a few cruises coming up this year and I wanted to start telling you about them, well, not everything, I have to keep some things a surprise. Here goes…
The first one is Harmony of the Seas. Yes, I am joining her for a short 2-night cruise in May and I absolutely cannot wait! I’ve never had the pleasure of sailing on an Oasis-class ship, so it will be a first for me. I’m quite excited to be able to say that I’ve cruised on the biggest cruise ship in the world! What am I most looking forward to? Everything! Although I must admit that I’m quite excited to see Ultimate Abyss (the tallest slide at sea) and I’d really like to check out the ice rink! If I can sum up the courage, I may even try the zip-line, but that will be a ‘decide on the day’ thing – I’m not a fan of heights.
Next up is Fred. Olsen’s Balmoral, also in May. I will be sailing from Newcastle – perfect as that’s where I live – on a 5-night Norwegian Fjords trip. Aside from calling into one or two Norwegian ports en-route to the Arctic Circle, I’ve never really explored the actual Fjords and I’m very much looking forward to the scenic cruising that this voyage offers. We only have 2 ports, Bergen and Eidfjord, and the rest of the cruise is literally spent admiring everything Mother Nature puts before us. Balmoral is a new ship for me, too. I’ve cruised on Braemar and Boudicca, but never Balmoral. It should be a lot of fun! I’m yet to have a disappointing cruise with Fred. Olsen and they say if you are going to do the Fjords, you should do it with Fred., so I am!
In July, I will be boarding Queen Mary 2 for a Transatlantic sailing to New York and if there was ever a voyage I was excited about, it’s this one! I booked to do a Transatlantic voyage with Cunard several years ago, but I had to cancel it – not this time! I am sailing on a 7-night voyage and spending 16-days in America before sailing back to the UK, again on QM2. During my time in America I am actually meeting up with a friend of mine and we are doing a mini east coast road trip. It is going to be a lot of fun! So far we are visiting: Delaware, New Jersey, Maryland, Washington D.C., Virginia, Pennsylvania, New York and Massachusetts. I know, that’s a lot to fit in in 16 days, but I’m sure we can do it. Who knows, if this trip goes well, I may do something similar next year, but for a much longer period of time. Watch this space!
September will bring MSC Splendida and a 7-night European cruise. It’s been 2 years since I sailed with MSC Cruises (I know, terrible!) and I’m counting down the days until I can be back, cruising Italian style. I really like MSC Cruises, OK, the muster drill can be a little longer than most as it is done in several different languages, but get that out of the way and it’s just fun, fun, fun! There’s literally never a dull moment. Previously, I’ve sailed on MSC Opera and MSC Magnifica, so MSC Splendida is another new ship for me this year.
Finally, I come to Saga Cruises and a 24-night Mystery Cruise in November. That’s right, it’s a mystery! Passengers have no idea where the ship is going and the line has even said that it won’t tell you where you are until the ship has actually docked – how exciting is that?! This will be my first mystery cruise and to say I’m looking forward to it is an understatement, although I am slightly concerned about how I will back for it, but I’ll cross that bridge when I actually come to it.
