Construction on New Royal Caribbean Vessel Begins

The construction of another Oasis Class ship from Royal Caribbean is now officially underway as the first steel was cut at the STX France shipyard in Saint-Nazaire in France this week. The unnamed ship is set for delivery in 2018 and will be the fourth ship in the Oasis Class – the largest class of passenger ships currently in operation.

The Oasis Class will receive its third sister next summer as another, also yet-to-be-named, ship nears completion. The ship will take Oasis of the Seas’ and Allure of the Seas’ joint title as the largest cruise ship in the world, and is expected to have a maximum passenger capacity of almost a thousand more than her older sisters.

The fourth Oasis Class ship will be built to the same blueprint, so is expected the share the title of world’s largest cruise ship upon its launch.

Royal Caribbean currently has four ships in the process of being built, delivered and readied for launch. Before the two Oasis Class ships launch, two ships of the Quantum Class: Anthem of the Seas and Ovations of the Seas are planned to be launched, in April this year and mid 2016 respectively. This will take the number of ships in the Royal Caribbean fleet to 25, with the Majesty of the Seas set to transfer to Pullmantur Cruises in 2016.

Many details of the ship are yet to be revealed including planned home ports and itineraries, but Cruise1st will keep you up to date with all the latest developments.
