Lin Arison will officially name Carnival Sunshine (formally Carnival Destiny) during a ceremony at its new home port of New Orleans on November 17th 2013.
The ship was renamed following a massive $155 million makeover earlier this year.
During the ceremony, Carnival will donate $25,000 to both the Miami-based National Young Arts Foundation and the New World Symphony.
Speaking about the naming ceremony and the charitable donation, Gerry Cahill, Carnival president and chief executive, said:
“Carnival Sunshine’s transformation was nothing short of spectacular and we wanted someone as special as Lin, who has a deep connection with Carnival Cruise Lines, to serve as godmother.
“Providing families with a memorable vacation experience is at the heart of our success and Lin’s passion for fostering the artistic development of youth through her charitable endeavours made her the perfect choice.”
Lin Arison named the line’s first ship ‘Mardi Gras’ back in 1972 , and served as godmother to the original ship, Carnival Destiny. Speaking about her role in Sunshine’s future, Arison said she was “honoured” to be asked.
Arison was awarded the National Medal of Arts by President Barack Obama last year. This was due to her contributions as a philanthropist and as an arts education advocate.
Carnival Sunshine is the newest addition to the ship’s series of “Fun Ships 2.0”
The company promises the ship has been doused with an “extra dose of fun”. There are plenty of wonderful new additions to the ship that all the family will enjoy.
