Princess Cruises are currently in the process of doubling the size of their newest class of ships, the Royal Class, and have made some big progress in the last week. Not only has the steel been cut for the as-yet-unnamed fourth member of the fleet in Italy, but the line has announced that the upcoming Majestic Princess will boast a partnership with Michelin-starred chef Emmanuel Renaut.
Joining the Royal Princess and the Regal Princess on the seas, the two upcoming liners are set to boast all the major features of the hugely popular Royal Class vessels, and are expected to receive a few extra flourishes.
The steel cutting ceremony for the fourth member of the fleet took place earlier this month at the Fincantieri shipyard in Castellammare di Stabia, Italy where she is being built. Due to launch in 2019, work begins in earnest now for the shipbuilders to deliver this much-anticipated liner.
Keith Taylor, Princess Cruises executive vice president of fleet operations, was delighted to announce the ceremony: “Today’s steel cutting of Hull 6268 signals the continuation of a 16-year partnership that has delivered some of the most spectacular and innovative cruise ships at sea for Princess Cruises. We are delighted with the longevity of our partnership with Fincantieri and know that this next ship will follow on the successful design platform demonstrated with her sister ships.”
And looking to a ship with a slightly closer launch date, Princess Cruises’ Majestic Princess, which is due to take to the seas in 2017, is set to feature a restaurant operated by the owner of three Michelin stars, Emmanuel Renaut.
Le Mer, aboard the Majestic Princess, will be the first fruits of a partnership between the hugely respected chef and the much-loved cruise line. Renaut has earned a fierce reputation as the executive chef of Flocons de Sel, the stylish bistro in the village of Megeve in the French Alps. It is expected that Renaut will bring a little alpine sophistication to the ship in the form of a few entries from his popular Flocons de Sel menu.
Princess Cruises’ president Jan Swartz said: “Adding chef Renaut, another Michelin star chef, to Majestic Princess elevates the dining experience to an even higher level and reinforces our leading position as the best cruise line for foodies.”
