Boston Cabbie Cashes in on Royal Caribbean’s ‘Ticket to Adventure’ Campaign

Ever wondered if karma really does exist? A Boston cab driver will testify that the answer is a definitive ‘yes’ after he was gifted with a seven day Royal Caribbean cruise for handing in US$187,000 in cash. Left in the back of his taxi by a homeless man who’d just collected a lofty inheritance sum, the bag was filled with bundles of $50 and $100 notes.

After noticing the bag in the back of his cab, Raymond “Buzzy” MacCausland handed it in to the police, who then confirmed its rightful owner. The story quickly made national headlines, and Royal Caribbean’s ‘Ticket to Adventure’ team was quick to pick up on the buzz. The company praised the 72-year-old cabbie for his “exceptionally selfless act” and to say thank you, treated him to a seven-day cruise for two, including airfares to Florida. Now that’s good karma!

Recognising top notch humans

So what sparked Royal Caribbean to celebrate Buzzy’s honesty? The reward is all part of the line’s ‘Ticket to Adventure’ program, which aims to reward everyday people who perform “exceptionally selfless acts.”

Boston bobbies agree that Buzzy definitely qualifies, with Police Commissioner William Evans issuing a statement reading, “This hackney driver exhibited exemplary behaviour and his honest deed should be recognised.”

As a cabbie for more than 50 years, Buzzy has seen his fair share of forgotten belongings, including a briefcase stashed with $10,000 in cash. But as he certifies, “I’ve never seen money like that before. It was quite a sight when they dumped it on the table.”

Buzzy set to sail the Caribbean in style

While the exact itinerary has yet to be revealed, there’s no question that Buzzy and his lucky companion will cruise the Caribbean in style. Crystallised in its name, Royal Caribbean is the undisputed king of the region, with a kaleidoscope of incredible itineraries.

There’s something for every holidaymaker, from ultra-affordable four night sailings to Key West, Cozumel and Nassau to 12 night voyages calling at a myriad of iconic Caribbean ports. Experience Caribbean chic in Charlotte Amalie, the gem of the US Virgin Islands. Soak up West Indies beach life at its finest in Antigua’s St Johns, then shop up a storm in the bustling port city of Castries, St Lucia. Get lost in the colonial architecture, rich cultural history and lush mountain scenery of Basseterre, Saint Kitts, then wind it all up with a sun kissed visit to Philipsburg, St. Maarten.
