What goes on above deck is generally quite candid, with passengers sunning themselves by the pool, indulging at the buffet, hitting the spa and dancing the night away at entertainment venues. Of course, what goes on behind the scenes is nowhere near as upfront. Until now!
On March 3rd, Princess Cruises will tell all in a brand new documentary series that delves deep into the heart of the cruise ship staff experience. Set to screen on ITV, the six-part series will follow the lives of the Regal Princess crew, from the captain and his fellow seafarers, the Hotel General Manager and the entertainment cast and hospitality lineup. Downton Abbey’s Hugh Bonneville will step up as narrator, offering viewers engaging commentary on as the action unfolds.
“We love seeing what really goes on in self-contained worlds and a cruise ship on the scale of the Regal Princess is almost like a floating town,” reveals ITV’s Jo Clinton-Davis. “The Cruise promises to give our viewers an entertaining port-hole peek into a unique way of life that many of us dream of sampling.”
The itinerary showcases some of Europe’s most spectacular scenery, as the Regal Princess sails the Baltic Sea. Her voyage kicks off in Denmark’s Copenhagen, and winds up in the spectacular Russian city of St Petersburg. Throughout the journey, the ship’s 1400 strong crew will treat 4000 passengers to the best service in the business. This includes the chef and his team serving up over 20,000 meals a day!
While most view cruise ship stints as dream jobs, the new ITV show delves into the deeper side of the experience, introducing crew members as individual people, not simply staff. The camera follows both the ups and downs of life at sea, with viewers privy to homesickness, broken hearts, friendships, sky high career ambitions and more.
“We are thrilled to have taken part in this ITV documentary,” said Tony Roberts, Princess Cruises’ Vice President for UK and Europe, “and can’t wait for viewers to see Regal Princess, and her fantastic crew, in action,”
Every episode runs for 30 minutes, filmed by documentary specialist Wild Pictures. Don’t miss it when it hits ITV screens on March 3rd.
