A documentary going behind the scenes of Princess Cruises’ largest liner, the Royal Princess, is coming to ITV this month. On July 11 at 8pm, ‘The Cruise Ship’ will debut, giving viewers a unique insight into the operations of one of the world’s largest cruise ships and the attention to detail that goes into keeping all of her 3,600 passengers satisfied and entertained. The documentary follows crew members and passengers as the ship makes it way around the Caribbean and the Bahamas. Staff quarters are explored; giving viewers and cruise fans a unique glimpse of the life of a cruise liner crew member. Princess Cruises’ UK and Europe Managing Director, Paul Ludlow, explained: “We are thrilled that ITV chose Royal Princess as the focus for this upcoming series. Viewers will get unparalleled insight into this magnificent ship and her crew.Cruise holidays are an increasingly popular choice in the UK and we are confident that this series will widen the appeal even further. “Footage follows the crew above and below deck giving a real sense of the behind-the-scenes activity that makes the ship tick.” The Royal Princess has just celebrated her birthday having first launched in June 2013. The 10th largest passenger ship in existence in the world was named by The Duchess of Cambridge in a ceremony in Southampton. The four-part documentary, which will be narrated by John Thompson, star of Cold Feet and Fast Show, was filmed over an eight week period and will dedicate roughly 70% of the airtime to crew members including a hairdresser, an executive sous chef and a singer.
The first half-hour episode will document the challenges faced by crew members as they prepare for the ship’s most stylish evening: Formal Night, and the first day nerves of new girl Kelly.
