Bangkok Flooding Threatens Cruise Itineraries

Well lately there have been a lot of situations going on around the world which have caused cruise itineraries to change, and it looks like the floods in Bangkok could be another one. The flooding which has spread from the north of Thailand has been caused by heavy monsoon rains. Unfortunately, the situation might be worsened this weekend by high tides in the Chao Phraya river. The river flows through the city centre, meaning it could potentially cause huge problems for the country.

Although it is not currently the high season for cruises to south east Asia, in a month’s time there will be several ships heading in that direction. Currently the Diamond Princess, a ship from the Princess Cruises fleet is in the area and is due to stop off in Bangkok towards the end of October. The cruise line hasn’t yet decided whether to change the itinerary but will likely announce their plans within the next few days.

If you are booked up on a south east Asia cruise, try not to worry just yet. The flood situation is changing everyday and you can rest assured that if you don’t go to Bangkok itself, you will get to visit somewhere equally as beautiful. At the end of the day, you are in a much better position if you are booked onto a cruise which can be redirected, than you are if you are booked to go on a land holiday to the region in the coming weeks.
