Azamara Launches Virtual Reality Cruising

Have you ever considered a cruise holiday with Azamara Club Cruises but have been left unsure about whether you’d enjoy the trip aboard a smaller, more-exclusive ship? Well, no more shall you remain unsure – as Azamara rolls out virtual cruising, giving land lubbers the chance to experience life aboard on of the fleet without any commitment.

The Azamara 3DI is an innovative 360 degree virtual reality service which allows users to experience a number of aspects of a cruise holiday, from strolling around the top deck of the ship to zip-lining through the Costa Rican rainforest during an excursion.

Using Azamara’s unique Oculus Rift DK2 headsets and headphones, virtual passengers can enjoy authentic Azamara experiences from June, when the technology comes to UK trade shows and industry events. For a slightly less immersive and interactive experience, www.azamara3di.com is also showcasing some of the content.

Richard Twynam, managing director UK & Ireland, Azamara Club Cruises enthused: “We are thrilled to be able to use Oculus Rift technology to demonstrate the Azamara difference to loyal and prospective guests, and we hope that this travel experience will inspire future holidays with us.”

Oculus Rift is one of the big emerging technologies, expected to make big splashes in the gaming and leisure industries in the coming years. Although virtual reality is hardly a new concept – a new movement pioneered by Oculus Rift looks set to finally adapt the technology to a format which can be widely and commercially enjoyed by the public.

Giants of the video game industry have made utilising Oculus Rift-style technology one of their biggest priorities for this generation of gaming. Playstation have been demoing their own Project Morpheus virtual reality headset over the past 12 months with the intention of releasing a commercial version in the near future.
