Another New Port Set for Caribbean

Caribbean cruises are one of the most popular types of cruise in the world, with millions of people choosing to escape their for some sunshine, white sand and cocktails every single year. It is no wonder then that the cruise industry in this part of the world continues to grow and grow.

Last week, news broke that there will be a brand new $65 million docking facility at Maimon Bay. Maimon Bay is just west of Puerto Plata in the Dominican Republic. It is thought that the dock will be completed in Autumn 2013.

The project is set to include a retail, dining and recreating complex for passengers disembarking from their cruise, as well as an area for taxis to pick up fares, and a shore tour area, allowing coaches to get up close to the cruise liner.

The new docking facility is being financed by Carnival Corp, whose holdings include Carnival Cruise Lines (obviously), Princess Cruises and Holland America. At the minute, we aren’t sure about which brands will be using the new facility but we will be sure to update you when we hear any more news about it.

The dock will be open to all cruise lines, so anyone planning on sailing around the Caribbean in a few years time can look forward to visiting this brand new facility. Ooooh everything will be all shiney and new!!
