Cruise news stories in summer 2016 may have been dominated by the launch of the largest ship in cruising history (Harmony of the Seas, as if she needs any introduction), but many industry insiders were far more interested in a more modestly-sized vessel, the Seven Seas Explorer from Regent. Stylised as the most luxurious cruise ship in the world, the Seven Seas Explorer is spearheading the push for more refined and decadent cruise experiences.
With ties to royalty and decadent flourishes throughout the interior and exterior, the Seven Seas Explorer has been carefully designed to provide luxurious passage across the world’s waters. Recognising this, Channel 5 are airing a multi-part documentary about the construction of the ship: Building the World’s Most Luxurious Cruise Ship.
And so to celebrate, we are running through 17 of our favourite facts about the beautiful Regent Seven Seas Explorer.
Charlene, Princess of Monaco, is the ship’s godmother, taking part in the christening ceremony held in Monaco on 13 July 2016. As well as being part of royalty, Princess Charlene is also an Olympic swimmer, representing South Africa at the 2000 Sydney Olympics.
The official home of the Regent Seven Seas Explorer is the Marshall Islands, a collection of 1,156 tiny islands near the equator and the international date line.
If the prospect of a week or two exploring the world in the utmost luxury is not enough, guests aboard the Regent Seven Seas Explorer are welcomed on-board with a crisp bottle of Champagne.
Not a fan of interior cabins with no place to feel the sea breeze in your hair? Enter the Regent Seven Seas Explorer. All 375 cabins are suites, and all come complete with their own spacious balcony.
If it’s the little details that make a cabin extra special, the suites aboard the Seven Seas Explorer certainly tick all the boxes. Suites come complete with spacious walk-in wardrobes, complimentary bathrobes and slippers, interactive flat-screen televisions and luxury toiletries.
With a capacity of 750 passengers, the Regent Seven Seas Explorer may not be able to accommodate the 5,000+ passengers that modern mega-liners can, but it’s still the largest in the Regent Seven Seas fleet.
Compass Rose, Prime 7 and La Veranda are all hugely popular restaurants found throughout the Regent Seven Seas fleet, and have all been added to Explorer. Compass Rose is the flagship restaurant of the fleet, Prime 7 is a degustation paradise, and La Veranda provides a taste of the Italian Riviera.
Complementing the three popular restaurants aboard Seven Seas Explorer comes two new eateries, both seemingly destined for greatness. Fine French dining can be found in Chartreuse, whilst delicacies from all across Asia are available in Pacific Rim.
Perfect for those who are highly skilled in the art of relaxation, the Regent Seven Seas Explorer offers 24-hour room service. Breakfast on the balcony? No problem. Dinner from the Compass Rose menu will even be served course-by-course, offering restaurant-standard luxury in the comfort of your own suite.
Looking for something to wash down the room service? Or just a little nightcap? A generously stocked and personalised in-cabin liquor bar is replenished daily.
Regent Seven Seas’ attention to detail aboard the Explorer extends to the wine list. Experienced sommeliers are on hand to pair every course of dinner with an appropriate, carefully-selected and complementary wine.
Not only is the Regent Seven Seas Explorer earning a reputation for its wonderful dining experience, it also serves as a cookery school for guests. The Culinary Arts Kitchen gives guests the chance to take to individual cooking stations and learn from experienced, skilled chefs in the finest cooking arts.
Perhaps the finest spot on the ship to relax with a well-earned drink is in the Observation Lounge, an Art-Deco-inspired entertainment lounge. Rich mahogany columns with heavy leather chairs provide the perfect space for a tumbler of scotch and a good book.
Sick of soulless multiplex cinemas? The Constellation Theatre aboard the Regent Seven Seas Explorer is reminiscent of the golden age of Hollywood, with cabaret seats, personal tables and Murano glass lamps at your side.
The on-board Canyon Ranch Spa is perhaps the most generously appointed wellness area to be found on the seas. With eight fully-equipped treatment rooms, and a stunning infinity plunge pool, the Canyon Ranch Spa is the perfect place for a little ‘me time’ wherever you are in the world.
Helping you escape those winter blues, the Regent Seven Seas Explorer cuts a course for the Caribbean islands during the winter months, sailing out of Miami.
Next summer, the Regent Seven Seas Explorer will be navigating some of Europe’s best-loved cities of culture, including Amsterdam, Copenhagen and the Icelandic capital of Reykjavik.
These may be our 17 favourite facts about the ship, but there’s plenty more to discover aboard the Regent Seven Seas Explorer. If you’d like to find out more about this amazing ship, the first episode is available now on My5, and the second episode airs tomorrow (9th December 2016) on Channel 5 at 9pm.
