Royal Caribbean to base “Adventure of the Seas” cruise ship in Southampton

Today news broke of Royal Caribbean’s plans to base a second cruise ship in Southampton, in a move that will boost local industry and bring new jobs to the area.

The “Adventure of the Seas” vessel will join its sister ship “Independence of the Seas” at the Southampton port.  The addition of a second ship is estimated to bring in £45m of investments to the city.

Dominic Paul, the vice president of Royal Caribbean International, spoke of the “success story” of the UK cruise market.  He believes that “doubling [the]ship quota from Southampton is another great milestone” for the company.

The move from Royal Caribbean benefits holidayers too, as it is set to offer a greater variety of cruise destinations from the UK port: revellers will enjoy short trips over to France and Spain; a Mediterranean cities cruise sets sail for 14 nights and there is 12-night Baltic cruise that stops in both Helsinki and St. Petersburg.

The Adventure of the Seas ship will be part of the company’s “Voyager Class” fleet, which are some of the most innovative ships at sea today.  The ships are packed full of adventure: you can enjoy gliding round on an ice-skating rink or scrambling up the climbing wall.  Take the kids to enjoy a round of mini golf, or have some seaside fun at the Adventure Beach family area!  You can look forward to spectacular broadway-like shows and relaxing yoga classes, plus the themed bars are ideal for those wanting to sip on an ice cold drink.

Adventure of the Seas will be sailing from Southampton in Spring 2013.
