Royal Caribbean’s stonking good run of form when it comes to on-board musicals continues, as the Broadway smash, Grease, is announced for Harmony of the Seas. The hit Warren Casey and Jim Jacobs musical has been wowing theatre and cinema goers for 45 years, becoming the highest-grossing movie musical of all time in the process.
The universally-loved soundtrack is sure to have you dancing in the aisles to classic tracks such as Summer Nights, Greased Lightnin’ and We Go Together. The brand new handpicked cast from London and New York have been busy practising the famous dance routines and teen angst-filled scenes ready in time for the debut shows aboard Royal Caribbean’s new liner.
The show’s choreographer, Karen Bruce, explained just how difficult it was to find the perfect cast members to fill the famous roles of Danny, Sandy, Kenickie and Rizzo:
“It was more than just finding great singers, dancers and actors – our cast have to be able to do all three at the highest level with presence worthy of the Harmony of the Seas stage.”
The hit musical will be performed in the ship’s massive Royal Theatre which spans three decks. The regular performances of Grease will give all guests the chance to catch the show at least once during their stay on the seas.
There is a massive onus on entertainment aboard Harmony of the Seas, keeping the 5,000+ guests engaged during their time on the open ocean. Unique ice skating and high board diving shows will be regularly performed – enchanting guests of all ages.
Royal Caribbean have a proud tradition of bringing the biggest Broadway and West End hits to the seas, with the likes of Mamma Mia and We Will Rock You also wowing guests aboard members of the fleet.
US actor and singer, Carlos PenaVega will be aboard the ship getting all the guests in the mood for a little Summer Lovin’, leading the inaugural sailing events. PenaVega will be on hand to teach guests how to hand jive, whilst also presiding over a dance competition.
